How to Host a File

This is a super quick and easy way to host a file on your server. In this example we will be using CentOS 6 32bit as our VPS operating system.

What you need:

1. A link to the file you want to host. Example: http://example.com/file.zip

The web server should be already running. To find out, just visit "http://yourserverip". You should see the default webpage.

Steps:

1. SSH into your server.

2. Get the file onto your server.

# wget http://example.com/file.zip

3. Move the file to your web server folder.

# mv file.zip /var/www/html/

Done.

Your new download link will be: http://yourserverip/file.zip

Because the web server is already running on your server when the operating system was initially installed, hosting a file on your server is as easy as getting the file, and moving it to the right place.
